Lessons of life
- Never assume that, although you're 23, you look over 18.
- Never assume that airline websites' terms and conditions are not going to change in the weeks following your booking (no hard feelings, not at all).
- When you call 999, don't ask for fire emergency if you need an ambulance.
- Don't expect a mobile phone retailer to be able to sell you a phone on the spot. The day you decide you just want a "pay as you go" phone, their computer system might not allow them to sell it to you. Keep that in mind.
- And finally, even though to get a European driving licence you need to have an identity card or a passport, don't expect the former to have any value anywhere because, to quote a British bar manager, "to me, it's just like an old piece of paper". Hey mate, I'm sorry if the French state can't afford to give us nice plastic cards.
Song of the day: "Bad day", by Daniel Powter.
But as always, everything is relative.
