Prior Park

Prior Park is mainly renowned for its Palladian Bridge (one of only four in the world).

"Created by entrepreneur and philanthropist Ralph Allen from about 1734 until his death in 1764, this 11.3 ha (28 acre), 18th century landscape garden lies in a dramatic site running down a small steep valley to the very edge of Bath.

"A fine example of the English landscape movement, the garden is listed Grade 1 in English Heritage's register of parks and gardens, and forms part of the World Heritage Site of Bath.

"Accessible to visitors, the Palladian Bridge was created in 1755 and was built by Richard Jones, clerk of works, to Ralph Allen. Extensive restoration work has been undertaken on the bridge which was in a dangerous state of disrepair. Much of the 20th century graffiti has been removed but 18th and 19th century graffiti remain."

And now, ladies and gentlemen, let's see the pictures! You might think they're all the same. If they really were, then I would only have put one online. :o)

A month in Bath

It’s now a month since I arrived in Bath. So far, so good. The University is a really nice place, despite my being there only 8 hours a week. I’ve done a lot of “hiking” (more like fast walking) in and around Bath. I’ve found the Cotswold Way and the Bath Skyline trail, which I will explore as soon as possible, without rain if possible.

I’ve been to the Roman baths, the Royal Crescent, visited a Georgian-style house, been to a Thai restaurant, Garfunkel’s, the cinema (Music and Lyrics!), Starbucks Coffee (not counting anymore), walked along the Kennet and Avon canal and the river Avon, found a pub called the Boat House that sells Brains beer in Bath, been to Prior Park, to 2 churchyards (must be my gothic side), to Cardiff, discovered Bath ales, am getting used to the local girls’ taste for not wearing many clothes when they go partying (believe me, this is NOT something you want to see).

I am now desperate for one or two FULL days of sun (not when I’m in class please)…

And for those of you who want to know, well no, I still haven’t got a clue what I want to do after my studies, so I will probably travel until I run out of money and then will live a clandestine life deep in the Amazonian forest, with the money I’ll have made by selling the book I’ll have written by then.

More pictures to come, including Prior Park, my yellow duck and other stuff...

Bath in black and white

I thought, for a change, that some black and white pictures could be nice. They convey different impressions... A bit sinister, very romantic and mysterious...

I walked uphill and took pictures of anything and everything... A lovely walk despite the rain.

The hilly landscape around Bath.

Sheep in Bath, in front of another crescent...

And on top of the hill, an unexpected village... Check the mini-castle in the background!

My next big walk: Cotswold Way!

It goes up and down, up and down...

Bath by night...

Et enfin une photo en couleur pour montrer que des tuiles rouges, il y en a aussi à Bath!

Goodbye Cardiff.

This is what I call "having the train to ourselves".
